Flexibility and Highly Strategic Coordination Allowed the Client to Remain Operational Despite a Major Schedule Shift
Jan. 14, 2025 (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) - PREMIER Design + Build Group is proud to announce the completion of Underground Devices, Inc.’s new 106,920-square-foot headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Ill. The project, which included extensive improvements to office and warehouse spaces, required flexibility and precise coordination to ensure Underground Devices could continue operations with minimal interruption.
Underground Devices, Inc. manufacturers of duct spacers, bore spacers, and several styles of nonmetallic manhole cable racks for underground power and communications installation, was eager to move into the space ahead of schedule to ramp up production and meet its increasing product demands. The PREMIER team used its extensive experience in managing dynamic project timelines to shift focus and alter the construction schedule, prioritizing the manufacturing warehouse to ensure Underground Devices could remain operational and move into the new space as requested.
“Our priority has always been to minimize disruption to Underground Devices’ manufacturing,” says Senior Project Manager Bill Malarski. “We focused our efforts on delivering a fully operational factory space as soon as possible, allowing them to continue production without delay while we simultaneously worked on the office area.”
The team immediately began preparing the factory space for key equipment–particularly the facility’s crane, which replaces the need for forklifts and is vital to enhancing the efficiency and safety of the manufacturing process. The crane was transported in parts while PREMIER ensured the warehouse was ready by hardwiring the electric panels necessary for equipment operation. PREMIER’s team expertly synchronized the installation of upgraded electrical panels, providing the infrastructure needed for smooth operations once the machinery was fully moved from the previous facility.
After the manufacturing facility was up and running, PREMIER focused on the office spaces, which featured unique design elements and were personalized for every individual. The team installed pre-fabricated, modular offices and a custom “hidden” door that connects a meeting room with a private office, adding functionality and an element of surprise to the workspace.
The building team met with the Underground Devices team weekly to ensure a smooth construction project despite a major shift in focus and change to the construction schedule. They frequently walked the space together to track construction progress and discuss cost-effective options for each step of the process.
The project was successful, with construction wrapping in late December 2024 and preventing operations interruption for Underground Devices. The grand opening is scheduled for mid-January 2025.
