January 12, 2024 (Glenview, Ill.) – PREMIER Design + Build Group has begun work on a major showroom renovation and expansion project at Abt Electronics in Glenview, Illinois. Abt Electronics is the largest independently-owned, single-location retailer of electronics, appliances, and home goods in the country. Abt’s Glenview showroom space spans 114,000 square feet. The company employs more than 1,700 people.
PREMIER has been chosen to renovate and expand the retailer’s second-floor showroom. The assignment includes selective demolition, new foundations, and structural steelwork. PREMIER’s team will add 41,316 square feet of space including an elevator and restroom facilities. Abt Electronics has earned a reputation as a shopping destination. Its retail location features its own mini-mall filled with custom, high-end boutique shops, an elegant interior fountain, and a 7,500-gallon saltwater aquarium.
PREMIER’s team on the project is led by Joseph Ahrens, Senior Vice President/Midwest Market Leader. Ahrens is working closely with Vice President Preconstruction Services Jason Spataro, General Superintendent Matthew Robson, Senior Project Manager Bill Malarski, and Assistant Project Manager Jason Coppe. “We’re honored to be awarded this project by Abt, a third-generation family-run business known for delivering exceptional customer service and building an extremely loyal fan base,” said Ahrens.
Abt is well known for its eco-friendly sustainability practices. The company’s award-winning green program includes a rooftop solar array, an irrigation system that uses renewable rainwater, and an on-site recycling center that allows the company to recycle over 95% of its own waste.
Abt’s sprawling retail location will remain open throughout the renovation and expansion work. PREMIER’s team is devising solutions to minimize the impact of the construction work on both Abt customers and employees. Cornerstone Architects, Ltd. will provide architectural design services for the project, which is slated for completion in Q3 2024.
